Five quick looks: straight on, a turn each way, chin down, and one with glasses or in different light. AwareLock stores measurements, never photographs.

- Enrolment stores 128 numbers per look — a measurement, not an image. There is no path back to a photograph.
- Face data and clips are encrypted with a key derived from your hardware.
- Intruder clips are written to your disk only, capped in size, deleted on schedule.
- The camera opens only while protection is on, and is released the moment it is not needed.
- Your machine's hardware id is used to bind your licence, never displayed and never stored in the clear.

Questions worth answering
My key will not activate
Check for a mistyped character — the app catches typos before it ever contacts the server. Keys never contain the letters I, L, O or U. If it still refuses, the key may already be active on another computer; release it there under Settings → Licence, or email us and we will free it.
I replaced my computer. Do I need a new key?
No. Open Settings → Licence on the old machine and choose Release this computer, then activate on the new one. Machine gone already? Email us with the first block of the key (AWL-XXXX) and we will release it.
Can I use one key on two computers?
A key binds to the first machine it activates on, so no — a laptop and a desktop need two keys. That binding is what stops a copied installer from working elsewhere.
It does not recognise me in the evening
Add another look under Your face, taken in that light, or lower Recognition strictness a notch in Settings. Both take a few seconds and make a large difference.
Does it work with a photo of me?
A held-up photograph can fool any camera-only system, including this one. AwareLock is built to protect an unattended machine from the ordinary risk — a curious colleague, a café, a shared office — not from a determined attacker with your portrait. Keep the strictness high and enrol several looks.
Will it slow my machine down?
A check every 0.7 s at low resolution, on the GPU where available. Raise the interval in Settings if you would rather spend even less battery.
Does the webcam light stay on?
While protection is armed, yes — that is the operating system telling you the truth about a camera in use, and we would not hide it if we could. AwareLock releases the camera whenever it is not needed: when you pause it, during a call, and while your machine is locked if intruder recording is off.
