Plain English, and short. Buying a key means you accept what is below. It is written by the person who wrote the software, not by a legal department, and it is meant to be read.

What you are buying

A perpetual licence to run AwareLock on one computer, for $4.99. There is no subscription and no renewal. A key binds to the first machine it activates on; that binding is the copy protection, and it is why a laptop and a desktop need two keys.

You may move a licence to a replacement machine as often as you genuinely need to: release it in Settings → Licence, or ask us and we will release it for you. Bulk purchases (up to 25 keys) are simply that many single-computer licences.

Refunds

For an activated key the 7 days run from activation, and for an unused key from the purchase. After that window, or if the self-service cancellation refuses for any reason, reply to your purchase email within 14 days of buying and we will refund you by hand. If you are an EU or UK consumer, all of this is in addition to your statutory rights.

A refunded key is revoked and stops working on the next licence check. Please do not ask for a refund and keep using it.

What AwareLock does not promise

It is a deterrent for an unattended computer, not a guarantee. Specifically, and honestly:

• A photograph can fool camera-only recognition, including this one. There is no liveness check. AwareLock is built for the ordinary risk — a shared office, a café, a curious colleague — not for a determined attacker holding your portrait.
• Recognition is statistical. Poor light, a new haircut or an unfamiliar angle can mean it fails to see you (and locks) or, more rarely, mistakes a similar face for yours. Strictness is yours to tune.
• It cannot stop someone taking the machine. Intruder clips live on the disk that walks out of the door with it.
• Blocking removable storage is Windows only and needs administrator approval. macOS gives applications no supported way to do it.
• Locking depends on your operating system. On macOS, if your Mac is set not to require a password after sleep, sleeping it is not a lock.
• It is not a substitute for disk encryption, a strong password, or your employer's security policy. Use it alongside them.

Your responsibilities

• Only enrol faces of people who agreed to it, and only record on machines you are entitled to monitor. Filming colleagues or the public may require notice or consent where you live; that is your call to get right, not ours.
• Keep your keys private. A key shared is a key spent.
• Do not decompile, resell or redistribute the software.

Liability

The software is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to AwareLock is limited to what you paid for it. We are not liable for lost data, lost work, missed lock events, false lock events, or anything a third party does with a machine we failed to protect. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud, and consumer rights that cannot be waived are not waived.

Availability

The licence server is needed to activate and, occasionally, to re-confirm a licence. The app keeps working offline for 30 days between checks. If the service were ever discontinued, the intention is to publish an offline activation path rather than leave paid installations stranded.

Support

One person answers the email, usually within a day. Write to us — including the first block of your key (AWL-XXXX) if it is about a licence. Never send us a whole key unless we ask.

Governing law

Danish law, with the courts of Denmark competent, except where consumer law gives you the right to your own local courts.
